Rest in Peace my dear friend. a slide show of a few Tommy Makem photo's. For some reason there is a small flutter in Tommy's voice...I'm not sure why, the original recording is clear.

👏👏👏
A great great song to remember a great lrish heroic rebel Roddy McCorley Hip hooray
Passed Toome today, said a prayer for Roddy as I crossed the bridge in the middle of the town, obviously not the same bridge but my heart was in it.
Incredible voice!
Brilliant song 🇮🇪✅🎵
My maternal grandfather lineage is from cullyhanna Armagh in that green field
My grandmother came from monaghan.......
I can't hear it and not weep...the terrible beauty
You tricked me with the still shot of the video, but I'll listen to him
And their sons Will be CALLED ON AGAIN to RETAIN OUR FIELDS
Laid my grandad to rest in 2004 to this beautiful song ❤️
Pure gentleman.. great musican..
Absolutely brilliant, love the Clancy but my family won’t play them . Don’t know what they are missing.
A class act
Amazing or what tiocfaidh ar la thank you Tommy you are missed powerfull song also free Palistine they are like us
Yes the Palestinians are indeed like us. My maternal grandfatger from Plumbrudge ( the bridge of the plunderings)Tyrone and I used to listen to this and other songs Tommy did with the Clancys. Always hoped in my lifetime I d see a United Ireland My grandfather died in 1972 he arrived Here as a young man of 20 in 1901. Maybe if I live to be 91 I ll see a united Ireland. Always cry when I listen to this top
A good one indeed! Captures the story - boy meets girl - not too slow, not too fast.
And that diction! Every word crystal clear.
Tom and Jimmy Sweeney are Tommy Makem’s nephews who came from Omagh County Tyrone.Their Mother was Tommy Makems sister.Very musical family.👌👌👌🇮🇪
I've asked that this recording of this song be played at my funeral. Followed by Sharon Shannon's The Blackbird. No hurry. For now, I'm going to visit Tommy's grave this week and lay some Tendercrop flowers. 🍀🍀🍀🍀 Update: Done. Irish and American flags wave over Tommy's grave (just look for them toward the back of the cemetery of you go). Plenty of stones, shells and coins left by visitors.
Great. He lies and sleeps peacefully.
Wow he had an amazing singing voice - perhaps under appreciated here in ireland ?
It almost made me cry, but I don't feel like bawling when thinking of Ireland!
I'm a houseless traveling clown/psychedelic dealer and this is one of the songs I sing on the corner in the places I go
Amazingly rich voice! I love it.
The crew weren't exactly speedy about moving the microphone away from yer man, were thry?
Tommy Makem. On our hearts for ever
Thank u Tommy U live in our hearts.
Hopefully we dont see in our time this happening again.
Fucking incredible. Long live Ireland and her fight for freedom from tyranny.
It is an irish song..and I'm uladh alba.....
Man's a uladh legend
Great.song.and.singer.tomy.makem.
I adore this song it brings tears to my eyes. A beautiful song.
Love Makem, the Clancys and all irishfolk music. My mom- not Irish but married into it- would play the records at home and us kids would dance around the house. One thing bugs me about Tommy and Liam too. Why do they so often feel the need to recite the lyrics to the song before they sing it. Kinda takes away from the emotion of the song doesn’t it!
I can never listen without weeping. My father was from East Cavan not far from where Mr. Makem was born. What a thing it is to love a country.
My grabdfatger Mom's dad came from Tyrone Dad's people came frim Cavan during An Gorta Mor as fid Mon's mother's people In the 1960s my grandfatger abd I wiukd listen to Maken and the Clancy's He d always .." wipe his glasses" when he d hear this song. I always cry too when I hear it I m 76 always hoped for a United Ireland. I ve told my daughter I want this played at my funeral along with O Donnell Abu
My Mother's favorite song. Miss you every day.
Oh my gosh - how could I have missed this performance! Pure brilliance, acappella no less!. It's one of the finest performances of Irish traditional music I've ever heard (and I'm rather deeply steeped in the old sod for better or worse.)
Patrick Kavanagh was a great poet. “My soul was an old horse I tried to sell at 20 fairs:” great stuff
I love his introduction.
RIP AUNT ANNIE
My grandmother, Bridget Molloy, was born in Croagh, Donegal in 1988. I can't listen to this without crying and aching for the many souls that fought for freedom and a united Ireland.
What a poet this man was he was brilliant
The explanation should also say that it is Kathie Ryan of Cherish The Ladies singing the beautiful solo.
Love Barley Bree. Saw them in our town often and you were never ever cheated at any of their concerts.
My Aunt and I travelled to West of Ireland in the late 80s/early 90s and this was played on the coach across country. Amazing lyrics and words.
Substitute Johnny for Annie and it turns me into a sobbing basket case😢😢😢
Great music
Great old Scots song well rendered.
I missed knowing him. Yet I miss him now, as a dear friend. What a beautiful voice. Love you, Tommy
This was posted at a time when atrocities are being committed by the Israeli army in Palestine Right now, I will say this, From the river to the sea Palestine will be free, just like The fourth Green field will Bloom once again.
